There are many ways to save money. In these times of hardship, you can look around and see ways to save. I have listed down in alphabetical order these things we might take for granted. BANK - Don't spend your hard-earned money on maintenance fees. If you must pay fees, be sure it's the ones you need. Your checking and savings accounts should be earning. Switch your account if your bank is not doing this. CAR - Keep your car's air filter clean. Go for reliability and fuel efficiency when buying a car. A reliable and fuel-efficient car will save you thousands over the long haul. Maintain right tire pressure. Take public transportation. Go for used or late model when you buy a car. Take it easy on the accelerator. Not only it is inefficient in terms of gasoline usage, it can get you pulled over and cost you a bundle. CLOTHES - Don't throw damaged clothing. Repair it instead. Have a yard sale for clothes and other stuff you no longer need. Buy clothes that match well with other clothes. CREDIT CARDS - Pay your balances in full each month to avoid paying interest charges. But if you're already paying them, ask for a rate reduction. Put them in a safe place in your home and not in your wallet where it's easy to spend them. Remove your credit card numbers from your online accounts. It's easy to spend online when you have your card information stored in an account. ELECTRICITY: Turn off your TV - There are a lot of financial benefits to this: less exposure to guilt-inducing ads, more time to focus on other things in life, less electrical usage, and so on. It's great to unwind in the evening, but seek another hobby to do that. Turn off lights before you leave. Use CFL or, LED bulbs. Although more expensive, they have a longer life than normal incandescent bulbs and uses far less electricity. Do a "maintenance run" on your appliances. They will run more efficiently (saving you on your energy bill) and they'll last longer(saving you on replacement costs).
ENTERTAINMENT: Invite friends over instead of going out. It's cheaper. Don't spend big money entertaining your children. Board games are good alternatives. Cut the cable or drop premium channels. Don't go to shopping centers to be entertained. It will only encourage you to spend money on stuff you don't really need. FOOD: Plan your food ahead. This saves time going back to the grocery store because you forgot something. Drink more water. You won't eat as much (so you save money) and have better digestion. Cut back on the convenience foods - fast foods, microwave meals, and so on. Instead, make simple and healthy replacements that you can take with you. Don't fear leftovers - instead, jazz them up. GIFTS: Make your own gifts instead of buying stuff from the store. You can make all kinds of things at home quite easily and inexpensively. Give a gift of a service instead of an item. Use alternative wrappers like a Sunday paper. HEALTH: Keeping your hands clean will keep you far from getting viruses and bacteria so you won't get sick and spend on medicines. Use generic brands of items you buy regularly. Cook food and prepare them very well. SHOPPING: Use coupons to save. Let 30 days pass if you want to buy something. If you still want it after that, you can consider buying it. Write a list before you go shopping and stick to it. Compare prices and find a cheaper grocery or shopping store. Buy appliances based on reliability, not what's cheapest at the store. Shop after the holidays. Make your own items instead of buying them. UTILITIES - Go through your cell phone bill, look for services you don't use, and ditch them. Cancel the cable or satellite channels you don't watch. Many people with cable services often are paying for a premium package but rarely watch those extra channels. VACATIONS - Pack food before you go on a road trip. Take vacation during off-season. Now that you know these practical ways to save money on regular and recurring expenses, it's high time to make every effort to apply all these and in many other ways. Always remember that a dollar saved is a dollar earned.
