Adobe Dreamweaver is a web design and development software package developed and marketed by Adobe Systems Incorporated: it is arguably the market leading program for such tasks.

Today, many people who purchase Dreamweaver will get it as one of programs contained within the Adobe Creative Suite 3 packages. Adobe Creative Suite 3 is a collection of web development, graphic design, and video editing applications. The package is available for both PCs running Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh computers. In the case of the Apple Macintosh, all the major programs are now provided in the form of "universal binaries", which is a type of file that is suitable to run on both the newer x86 (Intel) and older PowerPC Apple Macintoshes.

There are several different variants of the Creative Suite 3 package available from Adobe: Design Standard, Design Premium, Web Standard, Web Premium, Production Premium and Master Collection. Each of these packages includes a different bundle of software applications. Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 is included only in Design Premium, Web Standard, Web Premium, and Master Collection. Adobe Dreamweaver is not included in the Design Standard or Production Premium packages.

It should be noted that Adobe Dreamweaver is a very powerful and feature-rich program. While Dreamweaver is generally very well thought-out and easy to use, simply because there are so many capabilities in the program, it can take some time to learn how to get the most from it. Additionally, many news users to Dreamweaver will need not only to learn how to use the software, but will also need to the basic techniques and terminology of web development and web designs. That's no reason however to stop you - there are many excellent Internet tutorials, software training packages, books and even DVDs that can help you.
